The short version
Sake & Malt is reader-supported. Some outbound links to retailers are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, we may receive a commission from that retailer. You never pay more — the commission comes out of the retailer’s margin, not your basket.
Which programs we participate in
We apply to affiliate programs run by retailers we would recommend anyway. As of the date above, applications are pending or active with programs operated through Impact, CJ Affiliate, Awin, Affiliate Future and ReferralCandy, covering retailers including Flaviar, dekantā, Palate Project, The Whisky Exchange, Master of Malt and Japan Centre.
Links to retailers we are not affiliated with are marked nofollow and earn us nothing. We include them when they are genuinely the best option for a reader in a given country.
What this does not change
- We do not accept payment for a positive review, a ranking position, or inclusion in a list.
- Commission rates play no part in the order of our recommendations. Where a higher-paying retailer is the worse choice for you, we say so.
- We do not publish sponsored posts disguised as editorial. If a brand ever pays for placement, that page will say so at the top.
How we test and verify
Our research is done primarily in Japanese: brewery and distillery websites, Japanese label and labelling regulations, and Japanese retail listings. Where we state a price, a shipping destination or a program detail, we record the date we last checked it and show it on the page as “last verified”. Alcohol retail changes fast — subscriptions get cancelled, brands get renamed, shipping rules change by state and by country — so a stated date is more useful to you than a claim of being definitive.
